Ecotherapy is about nature reconnection, horticulture therapy, animal-assisted therapy, wilderness experience, and social activism. Our goal as ecotherapists is to use nature as our co-therapist as we help others heal and reconnect with earth.
Goodtherapy.org defines Ecotherapy as “Connection with the earth and its systems are at the core of ecotherapy. Many clinicians who practice ecotherapy believe that the earth has a self-righting capacity which operates through complex systems of integrated balance, and that if people can harmonize with these systems, they may experience improved mental health. Personal well-being and planetary well-being, as proposed in many tenets of ecotherapy, are not separate from each other. People’s lives are therefore seen as part of a greater system of interaction.”
Spending time in green space and exploring the natural environment around you has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, ease depression and anxiety symptoms, increase oxytocin levels, manage ADHD, provoke positive thoughts, improved lung functions, and overall greater sense of self and well being.
Ecotherapy is a great therapy for anyone who is interested in reconnecting with their natural environment.
Ecotherapy sessions can be performed in a variety of settings indoors and outdoors. Introductory sessions begin indoors or via Zoom to help establish a client’s readiness to be outdoors based on their previous experiences with nature. During your free consultation you will be asked questions to help the therapist gauge your current level of connectedness.
More and more studies are being published that show the immense benefits of “green therapy”, “nature therapy”, “garden therapy.” Ecotherapy is the umbrella term for various types of therapy. In this modern society we are so plugged in and stressed out. Ecotherapy helps unplug and give the mind and body a chance to rest, reset, and recalibrate within their natural world.
